Located at No. 10 Salisbury Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong Museum of Art is one of the important milestones of Hong Kong. Established in 1962 at City Hall by the city council and moved to its current location in 1991, this museum has some of the rare pieces of Chinese cultural heritage. Today This museum is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department Hong Kong Government.
The mission of the Museum of Art Hong Kong is to preserve cultural heritage of China and promote art with a local focus. The collection at the museum more than 15,000 works of art such as Chinese paintings and calligraphy works, antique treasures Chinese works of local artists.
Several exhibitions organized by the Museum of Art Hong Kong to promote art among international audiences. Shows like calligraphy works selected from the museum's collection and the gems of Chinese ceramics are permanent exhibitions that are open all year. Exhibitions Special are also organized by the museum in different seasons on special themes to attract local and foreign tourists.
Library Chinese antiquities at the museum is a diverse one. It includes some fine pieces of traditional art, such as ceramic Guangdong and Southeast Asian works of art decorative such as bronze, jade, glass and bamboo and carved ivory ornaments. Collection of historic portraits in the Art Museum shows the life, customs and landscapes of China for centuries. calligraphy collection includes the works of the Wu School, the School of Songjiang, monks and four other major schools of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Hong Kong Museum of Art is also equipped with a branch museum namely, the Museum of Tea Ware is located in the unit of cotton area inside Hong Kong Park. This branch of the museum focuses on the collection, study and exhibition of tea sets and its collection includes examples of Yixing teapots article of famous traditional afternoon tea.
The museum is also in the process of organizing various educational programs in line with the exposures to educate visitors about the aesthetic importance of China and Southeast Asia and to improve the interest of artistic creations from various cultures.
